US Ambassador Praises Strong Algeria-US Ties, Cites Promising Future

Algiers, Algeria – The United States Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, has lauded the robust and growing bilateral relationship between Algeria and the United States. In a statement released Tuesday, Ambassador Aubin described the ties as being built upon mutual respect, friendship, and shared values.

The Ambassador’s comments came after a farewell visit with the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as she nears the end of her diplomatic mission in the country. She expressed her pride in the collaboration she experienced with Algerian authorities throughout her tenure.

Ambassador Aubin emphasized that Algeria and the United States are capable of achieving even greater joint accomplishments. She noted that the work undertaken within the framework of their strong bilateral relations will continue in the coming years, serving the interests of both nations and bolstering their strategic partnership.

The Algerian-American cooperation spans several vital areas, most notably security cooperation, where both sides are working to develop joint capabilities to enhance regional stability and combat terrorism. Economic cooperation, energy, agriculture, and cultural and educational exchanges are also key components of the partnership.

The Ambassador expressed her gratitude to the President and the Algerian government for the warm reception and support she received during her mission. She described her experience in Algeria as valuable and fruitful, recalling her previous role as Deputy Chief of Mission. She also praised Algeria’s rich culture and the hospitality of its people.

Reflecting on the historical ties between the two nations, Ambassador Aubin highlighted the significance of the 1795 Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Algeria and the United States. She also noted that Washington was among the first countries to recognize Algeria’s independence on July 5, 1962. She further acknowledged Algeria’s crucial role in 1981 in facilitating the release of 52 diplomats through effective diplomatic mediation, solidifying the nation’s role as a diplomatic powerbroker. The ambassador’s statements signal continued cooperation between the two nations.
