Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, today at the Ministry headquarters in Algiers. Pope is currently on an official visit to Algeria.
The meeting focused on exploring various facets of the existing cooperation between Algeria and the IOM. Discussions centered on identifying effective strategies to strengthen these relationships, ensuring a more efficient approach to the multifaceted challenges associated with migration.
Key areas of discussion included:
- Reviewing current collaborative projects and initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities for enhanced data sharing and analysis related to migration trends.
- Exploring avenues for joint capacity-building programs to improve migration management.
- Addressing the root causes of irregular migration through development initiatives.
Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s commitment to working closely with the IOM to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration. He emphasized the importance of addressing the humanitarian aspects of migration while also focusing on sustainable solutions that benefit both migrants and host communities.
Both parties expressed optimism regarding the future of Algeria-IOM relations and pledged to continue working together to address the complex challenges of migration in a collaborative and comprehensive manner.
