A meeting of the committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon convened today at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters in Naqoura, Southern Lebanon. The meeting occurred amidst reports of continued activity in the region, including alleged explosions and low-altitude flights over Beirut.
According to sources, the meeting was limited to military representatives from the United States, France, UNIFIL, Lebanon, and Israel. Discussions focused on maintaining stability and adherence to the existing ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Israeli military conducted operations in Southern Lebanon. Allegedly, a bulldozer was targeted, and a residential building was demolished in the Khiam area. These actions reportedly coincided with low-altitude drone flights over Beirut and its southern suburbs, prompting concerns about potential violations of the ceasefire.
Local news agencies reported that a “hostile drone targeted a bulldozer in the vicinity of the Abu al-Laban neighborhood in the town of Aita al-Shaab.” Furthermore, it was claimed that “an enemy force detonated a three-story building in the Bab al-Thaniya area, west of the town of Khiam.” The method of demolition was not immediately clear.
Israeli warplanes were also reportedly observed conducting flights at varying altitudes over several southern villages, extending as far as Sidon. Intense drone activity was reported in the Nabatieh area.
The same source indicated that mock raids, characterized by sonic booms at medium altitude, were carried out over the Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah regions. A low-flying Israeli drone was also allegedly spotted over Beirut and its southern suburbs.
Recent reports in Israeli media have suggested that the Israeli army is finalizing plans for a large-scale operation against Hezbollah positions, should the Lebanese government and army fail to disarm the group. This comes amidst ongoing concerns about alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire, which has been in place since November 2024, including near-daily incursions and the continued occupation of five Lebanese hills in the south, seized during the last conflict.
It is important to note that DZWatch cannot independently verify all of these reports at this time.
The ceasefire agreement ended the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, which began in October 2023, before escalating into a full-scale conflict in September 2024. The conflict resulted in significant casualties, with over 4,000 fatalities and approximately 17,000 injuries.
