Government Reviews Key Files, Addresses Housing for Trainees

Algiers, January 7, 2026 – Prime Minister Sifi Gherbi chaired a government meeting today dedicated to examining several crucial files impacting various sectors of the nation.

The government initially reviewed a draft executive decree outlining procedures for providing accommodation to apprentices. This decree focuses on apprentices benefiting from lodging within employer-owned facilities or residences affiliated with public vocational training institutions. The aim is to create a mechanism to support apprentice housing and improve their training conditions. This addresses challenges arising from the geographical distance between some public vocational training institutions or the headquarters of economic enterprises and apprentice residences.

Furthermore, the government received a progress report on the implementation of supplementary programs benefiting the provinces of Khenchela, Tissemsilt, Djelfa, and Tindouf, as approved by the President of the Republic. The presentation highlighted the physical and financial status of these programs, noting significant completion rates. It also addressed key obstacles encountered in ongoing projects, with the goal of resolving them and completing registered operations within the established deadlines.

The annual report on major risks for 2024 was also presented to the government. This report analyzes the key risks recorded in 2024, preparedness and disaster response measures, and provides a series of recommendations aimed at mitigating risks and improving the national disaster risk management system.

Finally, the Prime Minister informed the government members of the President’s decision to support the national livestock market for Eid al-Adha by importing one million head of sheep. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries has been tasked with immediately initiating the necessary measures to implement the President’s decision.
