Counter-Terrorism Efforts: Seven Suspects Arrested Nationwide

DZWatch Exclusive – In a series of operations across the country, detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) have apprehended seven individuals suspected of providing support to terrorist groups. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain national security.

According to the ANP’s operational report for the period of January 1st to January 7th, 2026, authorities also made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking. Twenty-eight drug dealers were arrested, and attempts to smuggle 387 kilograms of processed cannabis into the country via the Moroccan border were thwarted. Additionally, 4.4 kilograms of cocaine and 155,943 psychotropic pills were seized.

Furthermore, ANP detachments detained 208 individuals involved in illegal activities, including unauthorized gold mining. Authorities confiscated 30 vehicles, 31 generators, and 192 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting.

In separate operations, 14 individuals were arrested, and a machine pistol, a hunting rifle, and 29,527 liters of fuel were seized. Authorities also confiscated seven quintals of tobacco and eight tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation.

The ANP also reported the apprehension of 311 illegal immigrants of various nationalities across the national territory. These operations underscore the commitment of the People’s National Army to safeguarding Algeria’s borders, combating illegal activities, and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
