Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Snow, and Freezing Temperatures Across Algeria

Several regions of Algeria are experiencing severe weather conditions today, including heavy thunderstorms, significant snowfall, and a sharp drop in temperatures. Authorities have issued warnings advising residents to take necessary precautions.

Thunderstorm Activity: The coastal provinces of Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf are under a thunderstorm warning until dawn tomorrow. Residents should expect localized heavy rainfall and potential disruptions.

Further inland, the provinces of Setif, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, and Souk Ahras are also experiencing thunderstorms. This weather system is expected to persist until 3:00 PM today.

Heavy Snowfall: A special weather bulletin highlights ongoing heavy snowfall in areas above 800 meters. Accumulations are expected to reach up to 15 cm, with higher elevations like Chrea, Djurdjura, Babors, and Ouarsenis potentially exceeding 25 cm. The snowfall is predicted to continue until midday today. The provinces affected include Tlemcen, Naama, El Bayadh, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tiaret, Saida, Mascara, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Medea, Blida, Tipaza, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Jijel, Bejaia, and Setif.

Additionally, areas above 900 meters in Mila, Constantine, Skikda, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Khenchela, and Tebessa are also experiencing heavy snowfall, with accumulations potentially reaching 10 cm by midday.

Extreme Cold: A significant cold snap is expected to grip several provinces. Minimum temperatures could plummet to -5 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures ranging between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius until dawn tomorrow. The affected provinces include Tlemcen, Naama, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, Batna, and Khenchela.

A separate alert indicates that cold weather will persist until dawn tomorrow in the provinces of Tebessa, Oum El Bouaghi, M’Sila, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Saida, and Sidi Bel Abbes. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the cold.
