Algiers, January 8, 2026 – The nationwide rollout of 5G technology in Algeria is a direct result of strong political will and the government’s unwavering commitment to modernizing public services. This statement was made by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, during a ceremony held yesterday evening by Ooredoo Algeria to launch its 5G services.
Minister Zerrouki emphasized that this launch aligns perfectly with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives, which prioritize citizens’ needs by ensuring access to high-quality services. He lauded the collaborative efforts of all involved institutions in bringing this project to fruition.
The Minister described 5G technology as a fundamental driver for the national economy, particularly in sectors such as smart agriculture, industry, and education. He expressed confidence that 5G will unlock new opportunities and accelerate growth across various industries.
Rony Tohme, the General Manager of Ooredoo Algeria, stated that this commercial launch represents a critical step for the company as it enters the operational phase of its digital strategy. Ooredoo is poised to be a leader in 5G innovation and deployment in Algeria.
