Algiers, January 8, 2026 – Representatives of various transport unions have expressed their appreciation for the responsiveness of the highest authorities in the country to their concerns. Following a meeting with the President of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasseri, union leaders affirmed their confidence in state institutions and their commitment to confronting what they described as ‘malicious attempts by parties hostile to Algeria’.
The union representatives, affiliated with both the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) and the General Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans (UGCAA), stated that the meeting provided reassurance that the proposed traffic law has not yet been finalized. They lauded the ‘genuine responsiveness’ shown by the highest authorities, particularly President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to their expressed concerns.
‘Today’s meeting was extremely fruitful. We are reassured that our voices are being heard at the highest levels of government,’ stated one union representative. ‘We appreciate the willingness of the authorities to engage in constructive dialogue and address our concerns.’
The union representatives also extended their gratitude to those who worked diligently and with genuine patriotism to counter attempts to create unrest among transport workers. They emphasized the importance of national unity and stability, particularly in the face of external pressures.
The unions reiterated their trust in the state institutions and called on all transport workers to resume their activities, stressing the need to prioritize the nation’s interests above all else. They emphasized that a stable and efficient transport sector is crucial for the continued economic development of Algeria.
The representatives concluded by affirming their commitment to working collaboratively with the government to address any remaining challenges and ensure the continued growth and stability of the transport sector.
