Bern, Switzerland – Young Boys of Bern have announced that Algerian international defender, Jaouen Hadjam, will be sidelined for approximately three months due to an ankle injury. The news comes as a blow to both the club and the player, who had been hoping for a strong showing in the upcoming season.
The Swiss club released an official statement confirming the extent of Hadjam’s injury. Detailed medical examinations revealed significant damage to the ankle joint, necessitating surgical intervention. The surgery is scheduled to take place imminently, after which Hadjam will begin a lengthy period of rehabilitation and recovery.
“Following thorough medical assessments, it has been determined that Jaouen requires surgery to address the ankle injury,” the statement read. “We anticipate he will be unavailable for selection for around three months. The club will provide Jaouen with all the necessary support and resources to ensure a full and speedy recovery.”
This setback follows Hadjam’s premature departure from the Algerian national team’s training camp during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He sustained the injury during the group stage match against Burkina Faso, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament. The injury is a significant disappointment for Hadjam, who was looking to establish himself as a key player for both club and country.
The absence of Hadjam will undoubtedly pose a challenge for Young Boys’ defensive lineup. The club’s management is currently evaluating options to mitigate the impact of his absence, potentially including exploring transfer market opportunities. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on Hadjam’s recovery and Young Boys’ response to this setback.
