Riyadh is preparing to host a major conference aimed at achieving just and lasting solutions for the Southern Yemen issue, according to Saudi officials. Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman announced that the Kingdom, in consultation with key Southern figures, will form a preparatory committee to organize the Riyadh conference.
Prince Khalid bin Salman also praised the Southern Transitional Council’s (STC) decision to dissolve itself, describing it as a “courageous” move that demonstrates a commitment to the future of the Southern cause. He emphasized that the Southern Yemen issue now has a clear path forward, facilitated by Saudi Arabia and supported by the international community through the Riyadh conference.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, stated that the Riyadh conference aims to bring together Southern leaders without exclusion, fostering a comprehensive vision for equitable resolutions to the Southern question. The goal is to create a platform for inclusive dialogue and consensus-building.
Earlier today, Abdul Rahman Al-Subaihi, Secretary-General of the STC, announced the dissolution of the council and all its main and subsidiary bodies, both domestically and abroad. He affirmed that this decision was made in the best interest of Southern Yemen’s future and to safeguard peace and security in the South and neighboring countries.
Al-Subaihi further stated that the STC’s actions were taken in response to Saudi Arabia’s initiative to sponsor a comprehensive Southern dialogue. He urged all Southern Yemenis to act responsibly and contribute to realizing the aspirations of the Southern people, calling on influential figures and leaders to actively participate in the Southern dialogue conference.
This development signifies a potentially significant step towards addressing the long-standing issues in Southern Yemen, with Saudi Arabia playing a central role in facilitating dialogue and seeking lasting peace.
