Speaker Vows Support for Tamazight Language Promotion

The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, has pledged to actively support the promotion of the Tamazight language by integrating it into the Assembly’s communication and cultural programs. This commitment aims to solidify its institutional presence, encourage its use within the parliamentary sphere, and enhance the legislative body’s engagement with the diverse components of Algeria’s national identity.

Boughali made the announcement during the launch of a train designated to transport participants to the national celebration of the Amazigh New Year, Yennayer 2976, and the presentation of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Literature and the Tamazight Language, now in its sixth edition. The event was organized by the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA).

The train’s departure ceremony took place at the Houari Boumediene Airport train station, symbolizing the initiatives supporting this culturally and historically significant national event. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, the Secretary-General of the HCA, Hachemi Assad, the President of the National Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Childhood, Meriem Cherfi, along with several officials, executives, and representatives from official bodies.

In a statement to the press, Boughali emphasized that the Yennayer celebration “reflects the firmly established position of the Tamazight language within the components of Algeria’s national identity.” He added that it “embodies the sincere political will of the state, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to promote and preserve the Tamazight language as a shared civilizational and cultural asset for all Algerians.

The Speaker also highlighted the importance of appreciating the High Commission for Amazighity’s efforts in serving the Tamazight language and culture. He expressed his admiration for the creators and researchers who contribute to enriching the national cultural landscape and preserving the historical memory of the Algerian nation. He affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that further elevate the status of the Tamazight language and integrate it into all aspects of national life.
