Yemeni Presidential Advisor: Military to Confront Houthi Rebellion

A senior advisor to the Yemeni Presidential Office has stated that the newly formed high-level military committee will address any potential insurgency from the Houthi militia. Dr. Thabet Al-Ahmadi emphasized that the committee’s establishment will facilitate the systematic reorganization of all military formations in the country, adhering to the constitution, laws, and military regulations.

Speaking from Riyadh, Al-Ahmadi explained that the committee is prepared politically and militarily to respond should the Houthi militia reject peaceful resolutions. He noted that all other factions within the legitimate government framework are committed to the decisions and have not declared any rebellion. He warned that any defiance from the Houthis would be met with a response unlike previous measures.

Al-Ahmadi highlighted that President Rashad Al-Alimi’s address focused on three key pillars: transparency with the public regarding developments, unifying the Yemeni army by incorporating all military formations from the north and south, and ensuring that no formation or militia operates outside the framework of the constitution, law, and directives of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The presidential advisor indicated that the high-level military committee, whose members will be announced in the coming days, will define the mechanisms, controls, and legal frameworks for unifying the operations of all forces. This aims to ensure their subordination to a single command and restore military institutions to a unified, systematic structure.

Regarding southern Yemen, Al-Ahmadi stated that the presidency is currently preparing a comprehensive national dialogue encompassing all factions, components, and political currents. The goal is to develop a unified political vision for the southern issue within the framework of a unified Yemeni state, overcoming past imbalances and establishing order in areas that have experienced security chaos.

Al-Ahmadi reiterated that all factions are part of the legitimate government and committed to the new decisions. He asserted that any militia, particularly the Houthis, that rebels against these measures will face strict actions different from previous decisions. This aims to protect state institutions and stabilize the Yemeni army, while also strengthening coordination with the coalition supporting the legitimate government to ensure security and stability throughout Yemen.
