Customs Foil Major Drug Smuggling Attempt in Tebessa

Tebessa, Algeria – Algerian Customs officials have successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation in the wilaya of Tebessa, seizing a large quantity of psychotropic tablets. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and safeguard public health.

According to a statement from the Regional Directorate of Customs in Tebessa, mobile customs unit successfully seized 13,650 pregabalin tablets, each with a concentration of 300mg. The drugs were reportedly intended for illegal distribution within the country.

The seizure is a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region.

In addition to the seized narcotics, authorities also confiscated a truck used to transport the illicit substances. One suspect was apprehended during the operation and has been handed over to the relevant judicial authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This operation is part of the Algerian Customs’ broader mandate to prevent and combat all forms of smuggling, particularly those that threaten the security of society and the health of its citizens.
