An Israeli businessman-owned container ship was attacked by a drone in the Indian Ocean, according to a U.S. military official cited by the Associated Press. Previously, the Houthis announced their intent to target all ships owned or operated by Israeli companies or flying the Israeli flag, in response to the “brutal American-Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip,” as they phrased it, referencing daily massacres and genocide.
Following weeks of Israeli aggression in Gaza since October 7, the Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones at targets inside Israel. The group’s leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, also threatened to target Israeli ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
This recent incident occurs amidst a temporary humanitarian truce in Gaza, involving an agreement between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for the exchange of dozens of prisoners and the entry of hundreds of trucks loaded with humanitarian, medical, and fuel supplies into the region.
