President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed the government to redouble efforts in the agricultural sector, prioritizing increased yields per hectare as a national imperative for bolstering food security. During a cabinet meeting, the President emphasized the need for a comprehensive reorganization of the agricultural sector.
President Tebboune called on the government to mobilize all available resources and create a conducive environment for enhancing grain production. This initiative is to be guided by a strategic vision focused on modernizing and developing agricultural practices. He reiterated the sector’s vital importance and the special attention it receives from the presidency.
The President stressed the importance of adopting modern scientific methods throughout the agricultural process. He envisions a comprehensive plan developed in collaboration with agricultural experts and engineers, with careful consideration given to seed quality and soil characteristics specific to each region.
In line with these directives, President Tebboune instructed a review of the agricultural orientation law and production control mechanisms. The aim is to reduce food imports without disrupting market supply. This will be achieved by encouraging the establishment of specialized agricultural cooperatives and leveraging state-sponsored incentive and support programs.
Furthermore, the President tasked the Minister of Agriculture with urgently revitalizing red and white meat production to meet domestic demand, engaging breeders and producers in achieving this goal. Emphasizing the principle of “land to those who cultivate it,” the President reaffirmed the state’s commitment to regularizing the status of agricultural land for active farmers. This aims to guarantee optimal conditions for maximizing production and strengthening national food security.
