Setif, Algeria – National Gendarmerie forces in Setif have successfully dismantled an illegal operation involving the illicit speculation of subsidized animal feed. The operation, conducted by the Research and Investigation Unit of the National Gendarmerie, resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of subsidized goods intended for animal consumption.
According to a statement released by the Gendarmerie, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence indicating the existence of an undeclared warehouse in the municipality of El Taya, Setif province. This warehouse was allegedly being used by an individual to hoard animal feed, specifically bran and soybean residue, with the intention of creating artificial scarcity and selling the products to farmers and livestock breeders at inflated prices.
Following due legal process, authorities conducted a search of the clandestine warehouse. Inside, they discovered over 120 metric tons of bran, 280 metric tons of soybean residue (of various types), and 30 metric tons of salt of unknown origin. Investigations revealed that the warehouse was not registered with either the trade or agriculture authorities, confirming the intent to illegally hoard animal feed products and generate excessive profits.
The operation led to the arrest of one individual and the seizure of approximately 400 metric tons of subsidized animal feed. The estimated total value of the seized goods exceeds 17 million Algerian dinars.
The arrested individual has been presented before the competent judicial authorities to face charges related to speculation and illegal hoarding. This successful operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to combatting illegal trade practices and ensuring fair access to subsidized goods for legitimate agricultural businesses in Algeria.
