Tel Aviv Municipality Denies Opening City Shelters Amid Iran Tensions

The Tel Aviv municipality has refuted reports circulating in Israeli media claiming the city’s public shelters have been opened. The denial comes amid heightened tensions in the region, fueled by developments concerning Iran.

Earlier reports suggested that Tel Aviv had activated its public shelters in response to the evolving situation. However, the municipality clarified that while the shelters are not currently open, they can be activated remotely as needed, following directives from the Home Front Command.

This announcement arrives amidst increasing speculation regarding a potential Israeli or American strike against Iran. Reports from American sources indicate that military action is among the options being considered in response to the Iranian government’s handling of internal protests.

Earlier today, Iran vowed a “painful” response to any potential American or Israeli attack. The rising tensions have prompted heightened preparedness measures within Israel.

Channel 12 reported that the Ministry of Health has instructed hospitals to review emergency protocols. An urgent message was reportedly sent to hospital directors across Israel, emphasizing immediate readiness to transition from routine operations to a state of “extreme emergency.”

According to the reported instructions, hospitals are to operate under a “vital activity” framework upon receiving the order. This entails ceasing all non-urgent surgeries and outpatient clinics, focusing exclusively on life-saving procedures and the treatment of war-related injuries.

Channel 12 further stated that emergency measures include relocating vital hospital activities to fortified underground locations, ensuring continued treatment even under potential bombardment. Similar instructions were reportedly issued to private hospitals, urging them to immediately halt non-essential activities and discharge patients, preparing them to provide assistance if required.

The situation remains fluid, and DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
