Government Establishes Committee to Ensure Market Supply, Price Stability

Algiers – Prime Minister Sifi Gherib today oversaw the establishment of a multi-sectoral committee tasked with monitoring the supply of food products to the national market and ensuring price stability, particularly during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

The decision was made during a joint ministerial meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. The meeting focused on examining necessary measures for the continuous and regular supply of all food commodities to the national market, with a particular emphasis on widely consumed products, including vegetables, fruits, meats, and poultry.

The meeting also addressed practical procedures to guarantee the availability of cash liquidity, especially at Algeria Post offices and ATMs, to facilitate buying and selling transactions during Ramadan. Ensuring sufficient liquidity is deemed critical for smooth economic activity during this period of increased consumer demand.

According to official sources, the newly formed committee, operating under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s office, will continuously monitor the state of food supply in the national market and work to maintain price stability. The primary goal is to ensure that the needs of citizens are met throughout the holy month.

The committee’s work will be crucial in preventing shortages and curbing inflationary pressures that often accompany periods of high demand. The government’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to safeguarding the purchasing power of citizens and guaranteeing access to essential goods during Ramadan.

The establishment of this committee reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to regulate the market and protect consumers from price gouging and supply disruptions. Further details regarding the committee’s specific operational mechanisms are expected to be released in the coming days.
