Algiers, DZWatch – University of Algiers 3 has announced the opening of applications for the UNESCO-China (Great Wall) Scholarship Program for the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the government of the People’s Republic of China.
The program aims to foster human resource development and capacity building in developing countries, while simultaneously promoting international cooperation in the fields of education, culture, communication, science, and technology. Available scholarships encompass opportunities for visiting scholars (general or professors), Master’s degree studies, and Doctoral studies. The duration of study varies depending on the scholarship type, ranging from one to five years. Instruction will be conducted in either English or Chinese, contingent upon the specific program and host university.
Eligibility requirements include being a citizen of an invited country, including Algeria, and meeting specific age, academic qualification, and language proficiency criteria. Applicants must also demonstrate sound physical and mental health and secure preliminary acceptance from a recognized Chinese university. UNESCO particularly encourages applications from female students and researchers, as well as candidates from Africa.
The scholarships offer a comprehensive package of benefits, including tuition fee waivers, a monthly living stipend, university accommodation or a housing allowance, comprehensive health insurance, and round-trip international airfare. Furthermore, UNESCO provides an additional monthly allowance to scholarship recipients.
The National Commission for UNESCO has set a deadline of January 23, 2026, for submitting applications. The academic year is scheduled to commence in late August or early September 2026.
