Algiers – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib presided over a coordination meeting with regional governors on Wednesday, focusing on ensuring the adequate supply of essential goods to the national market during the upcoming month of Ramadan. The meeting, held on January 14, 2026, aimed to preemptively address potential shortages and price fluctuations often associated with the increased demand during the holy month.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, the discussions centered on strategies to optimize distribution networks and monitor market activity. Specific emphasis was placed on coordinating efforts between various government agencies and local authorities to facilitate the smooth flow of essential commodities from producers to consumers.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of proactive measures to stabilize prices and prevent hoarding, which can negatively impact the purchasing power of citizens, especially during Ramadan. He urged governors to work closely with local businesses and consumer protection organizations to maintain fair trade practices and address any grievances promptly.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed logistical challenges related to transportation and storage, particularly for perishable goods. Governors were tasked with ensuring that adequate infrastructure and resources are available to handle the increased volume of goods expected during the period.
This coordination meeting reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable and affordable supply of essential goods throughout Ramadan, allowing citizens to observe the holy month without undue economic hardship. The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.
