Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Ben Daouda, recently hosted a meeting with a group of film professionals at the Ministry headquarters. This gathering marked the third in a series of collaborative dialogues aimed at addressing the challenges facing the national film industry and exploring avenues for its development.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, discussions centered on the significance of documentary films as a vital form of cinematic expression. Participants highlighted the role of documentaries in observing social realities, preserving collective memory, and adapting to societal transformations.
Emphasis was placed on adopting a comprehensive approach that integrates both commercial and auteur cinema. This strategy aims to stimulate the economic engine of Algerian cinema while upholding public taste and elevating the artistic and aesthetic value of productions.
The meeting also explored innovative models for utilizing cinema halls, particularly through opening opportunities for qualified private sector entities under precise specifications. These specifications would ensure quality management, sustainable activity, and contribute to creating an economically stimulating environment for the development of a sustainable national film industry.
Minister Ben Daouda affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support these initiatives, thereby enhancing cultural participation and broadening cinematic reception. This meeting followed a previous dialogue that covered shared concerns, including directing film production towards audiences and studying cinematic demand as a key element in fostering a sustainable dynamic between cinematic works and viewers.
Furthermore, the importance of films reflecting the cultural, linguistic, and identity diversity of Algerian society was underscored. Support for first-time productions and short films was also emphasized as a space for experimentation and the discovery of new talent.
