Qatar Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire Phase Two, Urges Full Implementation

Doha has expressed its optimism regarding the commencement of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, hoping it will solidify the truce and improve the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Strip. Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the critical need for all parties to fully adhere to the agreement.

In a statement released today, Al-Ansari stressed the importance of unrestricted humanitarian aid flowing into Gaza, along with the immediate commencement of reconstruction efforts. These steps are deemed vital to alleviate the suffering of civilians and enable them to live with dignity.

‘Qatar, in its role as a mediator and in coordination with its partners, will continue its relentless diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians from the consequences of the conflict,’ Al-Ansari stated. He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to the mediation process until tangible progress is achieved.

The spokesperson reiterated Qatar’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. He also called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in supporting efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire, thereby enhancing the prospects for lasting stability and peace in the region.

The announcement of the second phase follows remarks earlier today by US Envoy Steve Witkoff, representing President Donald Trump, detailing the next steps in the President’s 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza. This phase transitions from a ceasefire to disarmament, the formation of a technocratic administration, and comprehensive reconstruction.

Witkoff explained that the second phase involves establishing a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration in the Strip, known as the “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.” This phase will begin with the implementation of a complete disarmament process, particularly targeting unauthorized weapons, alongside the launch of comprehensive reconstruction projects.

Qatar, along with Egypt and Turkey, welcomed the completion of the formation of the Gaza Strip administration committee, headed by Ali Shaath. In a joint statement, they emphasized the necessity for all parties to fully implement the Gaza agreement to achieve a sustainable peace. They expressed hope that this step would pave the way for the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
