Algiers, January 15, 2026 – A special envoy from the Federal Republic of Somalia delivered a message to Algeria, expressing Mogadishu’s appreciation for Algeria’s leadership in supporting just African and Arab causes. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir Mohamed, the special envoy, conveyed the message following a meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The envoy presented President Tebboune with a written message from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, expressing “deep gratitude and appreciation for the leading role Algeria plays in supporting just African and Arab causes.” The message also conveyed Somalia’s appreciation for Algeria’s firm stance in supporting Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, recognizing it as a cornerstone of African and Arab national security and its categorical rejection of any attempts to undermine its territorial integrity.
President Tebboune reportedly affirmed Algeria’s support for Somalia’s efforts to enhance security and stability in Africa and the Arab world. Furthermore, the Somali envoy highlighted that the message outlined Somalia’s clear position regarding certain regional policies and interventions, particularly those emanating from the United Arab Emirates. These actions, according to the message, contribute to undermining Somalia’s unity and fueling secessionist conflicts, posing a direct threat to security, stability, and unity in both the African and Arab spheres.
Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir Mohamed clarified that his meeting with President Tebboune was part of the ongoing follow-up to the Somali President’s previous visit to Algeria and the resulting political agreements, emphasizing the depth of fraternal relations between the two nations and their shared commitment to strengthening continuous coordination and consultation. During that visit, emphasis was placed on the importance of unifying African and Arab positions and strengthening joint coordination within regional and international frameworks to confront current challenges and reject any external interference that affects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
