Oran, Algeria – Tragedy struck the coastal city of Oran today as a gas leak claimed the lives of two individuals. The incident occurred at a family residence located in the Al Bahia housing complex within Ain El Turk municipality, according to local authorities.
Civil Protection services responded to an emergency call early Friday morning reporting a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Upon arrival, first responders discovered two victims inside the apartment, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
A statement released by the General Directorate of Civil Protection confirmed that the victims, a man and a woman, succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning resulting from a leak within the residence. Following standard protocol, the bodies were transported to the local hospital’s morgue for further examination.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas.
