African Union Commends Algeria’s Earth Observation Satellite Launch

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has congratulated Algeria on the successful launch of its earth observation satellite, ‘Alsat-3A’. The launch marks a significant advancement in Africa’s space and geospatial capabilities.

Mahamat stated that this achievement underscores Algeria’s leadership in the field of space science. He further emphasized that it reflects the nation’s commitment to harnessing satellite technologies for sustainable development, environmental monitoring, disaster risk reduction, and supporting evidence-based policymaking.

The Chairperson expressed optimism that the high-resolution data provided by ‘Alsat-3A’ will serve national and continental priorities, aligning with Agenda 2063 and the African Space Policy and Strategy. ‘Alsat-3A’ is expected to significantly enhance Algeria’s capacity to monitor its territory and contribute to regional security.
