Algiers, January 17, 2026 – The National Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather alert, forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across several provinces in Algeria today, Saturday.
The alert warns of rainfall reaching up to 30 millimeters in the provinces of Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Mascara, Relizane, Mostaganem, Oran, and Ain Temouchent. The anticipated rainfall is expected to begin at 6:00 AM and continue until 9:00 PM.
Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, including avoiding unnecessary travel and securing loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds and heavy rain.
A separate weather advisory has also been issued for provinces further east. The National Meteorological Office forecasts thunderstorms with rainfall reaching up to 30 millimeters, commencing from 3:00 PM, in the provinces of Chlef, Ain Defla, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Blida, and Medea.
Authorities are urging citizens in the affected regions to stay informed about weather updates and to exercise caution during the period of inclement weather. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance due to reduced visibility.
