Heavy Snowfall Blankets Several Algerian Provinces

January 17, 2026 – Several provinces across Algeria are experiencing significant snowfall, particularly in areas above 1000 meters in altitude. The National Meteorological Office has issued warnings regarding the accumulation of snow in multiple regions.

Provinces including Bechar, Tlemcen, Naama, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, and El Bayadh are expected to receive snowfall with accumulations reaching up to 10 centimeters. This weather pattern began midday today and is forecast to continue until 6:00 AM tomorrow, Sunday.

Furthermore, heavier snowfall is anticipated in the highlands of Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Laghouat, and Djelfa. These areas could see snow depths of up to 15 centimeters, with the snowfall persisting from midday today, Saturday, until midday tomorrow, Sunday.

A separate weather alert has been issued for other provinces. Tizi Ouzou, Medea, Bouira, Ain Defla, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and M’Sila are under a snow advisory beginning at 6:00 PM this evening, Saturday, and lasting until dawn tomorrow, Sunday. Residents in these affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.
