Constantine: 18 Arrested in Neighborhood Gang Crackdown

Constantine, Algeria – Police in El Khroub, Constantine, have dismantled a neighborhood gang comprising 18 individuals, following a violent public disturbance. The operation, concluded recently, aims to restore public safety and order within the community.

According to a statement released by the Constantine Police Department, officers responded to reports of a large brawl between two groups in El Khroub. The altercation reportedly involved the use of bladed weapons and trained dogs, causing significant alarm among residents.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement apprehended 18 individuals allegedly involved in the clash. A significant number of those arrested have prior criminal records. Authorities confiscated seven bladed weapons, including large knives and daggers, along with six trained dogs used for intimidation and aggression.

The investigation revealed the gang’s alleged involvement in organized criminal activities, including creating and managing a neighborhood gang, recruiting individuals to intimidate and terrorize citizens, endangering public safety, damaging property, and assaulting people with weapons and trained animals. The suspects also allegedly used a vehicle to facilitate their movements and escape.

Following the investigation, the suspects were presented before the Public Prosecutor at the El Khroub Court. They face charges related to establishing and organizing a neighborhood gang, recruiting individuals to incite terror and fear among citizens, endangering lives and security, damaging property, assault with bladed weapons and trained dogs, and using a vehicle to facilitate criminal activities and escape.

This decisive action by the Constantine police underscores their commitment to combating organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
