Merchants’ Union Assures Supply, Purchasing Power for Ramadan

The General Union of Algerian Traders and Craftsmen (UGCAA) has lauded the government’s proactive approach to preparing for the upcoming Ramadan, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring ample supply of essential goods and safeguarding consumer purchasing power. In a statement released today, the UGCAA highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts to stabilize the market during this crucial period.

The statement follows a meeting between the UGCAA Secretary-General and a delegation, including representatives from transport unions affiliated with the UGCAA, with the Prime Minister, alongside the Ministers of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, and the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation.

The UGCAA affirmed that the meeting reflects the state’s genuine political will to foster responsible dialogue and strengthen trust between government institutions and social partners. It described the discussions as a significant political and institutional milestone.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister announced the launch of joint workshops, guided by a clear timeline, to address professional and social concerns within the trade, transport, and services sectors. The aim is to ensure the stability of the national market and bolster economic and social equilibrium.

The UGCAA emphasized the commitment of traders, artisans, and the transport sector to supporting the government’s efforts during Ramadan with responsibility and dedication. It reiterated its commitment to ongoing workshops aimed at solidifying ethical business practices, promoting integrity and transparency, and raising professional awareness. This aims to achieve a fair balance between market demands and consumer rights, contributing to a healthy and stable economic environment.

The statement further noted that these sectors are under the special attention of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, given their strategic importance to the national system and their role in enhancing economic security and market regulation.

The UGCAA concluded by affirming its readiness, along with the transport sector unions, to engage positively and responsibly in any serious reform effort based on dialogue, integration, and participation. This commitment is aimed at maintaining market stability and protecting consumer purchasing power, particularly during sensitive periods such as the holy month of Ramadan.
