Regional Reorganization Bill Presented to National Assembly

Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning, Said Sayoud, presented a draft law amending and supplementing Law No. 84-09, dated February 4, 1984, pertaining to the country’s regional organization, to the Legal, Administrative Affairs, and Freedoms Committee of the National People’s Assembly on Sunday. The Minister of Relations with Parliament, Nadjiba Djilali, was also in attendance.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the proposed legislation aims to strengthen the administrative organization of wilayas (provinces) and municipalities, and to modernize the legal framework for territorial management. It specifically addresses the creation of eleven new wilayas in recent months.

Minister Sayoud also presented a draft organic law related to the organization of political parties, providing a detailed explanation of its key aspects. This law seeks to regulate the activities of political parties, ensuring their adherence to the Constitution and applicable laws.

These initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernize the country’s legal and administrative structures and to reinforce adherence to the Constitution and laws across various areas of administrative and political organization. The government emphasizes the importance of these reforms for efficient governance and citizen engagement.

The draft laws are now under review by the relevant parliamentary committees, and further discussions and potential amendments are expected before they are submitted for a vote in the National People’s Assembly. The government hopes that these changes will lead to improved local governance and a more streamlined administrative system.
