Algeria Celebrates National Municipality Day Nationwide

Across Algeria, the National Municipality Day was commemorated today, highlighting the crucial role of local communities in development and decentralization. Governors of the Republic presided over events in various provinces, underscoring the municipality’s position as a fundamental building block for local development and an effective mechanism for implementing decentralization policies.

The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport announced that the celebrations featured festive activities reflecting the vital role of municipalities in improving citizens’ living conditions. Local authorities, elected officials, sector executives, and representatives of civil society were in attendance.

The occasion served as an opportunity to showcase efforts to improve the quality of public services and strengthen the principles of local governance, ensuring more efficient management that is responsive to citizens’ concerns. Emphasis was placed on the importance of proximity between local government and the people it serves.

The Ministry reiterated the attention that the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, pays to continuing to support local authorities and strengthen their human and institutional capacities. This support aims to consolidate a modern, efficient municipality model that is closely aligned with the aspirations of citizens. The goal is to create municipalities that are responsive, effective, and truly serve the needs of the Algerian people.
