Sha’ban to Begin January 20, Ramadan Crescent Watch Set for Feb 17, 2026

Algiers – The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has announced that the first day of Sha’ban for the year 1447 Hijri will fall on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. This declaration follows the established practice of relying on both Sharia and astronomical data relevant to significant religious occasions.

According to an official statement, the night for observing the crescent moon, which signals the start of the holy month of Ramadan, will be Tuesday, Sha’ban 29, 1447 AH, corresponding to February 17, 2026. Crescent sighting procedures will be carried out by various observation committees nationwide.

The Ministry has expressed its supplication to Allah Almighty, praying that the Algerian people are granted the blessing of reaching the month of Ramadan. They also prayed for divine assistance for all to observe fasting, engage in prayer, and perform good deeds.
