Authorities across Algeria have significantly increased field inspections in anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative, a direct response to recommendations from the recent inter-ministerial council meeting, aims to ensure a stable and consistent supply of essential goods to the market. The focus is on maintaining the availability of widely consumed basic products and combating illegal practices, primarily speculation.
Abdelwahab Herkas, the Director of Trade for the Algiers province, stated in an interview with the national radio that daily inspections by regulatory agents have not revealed any disruptions in the supply of essential commodities. He urged citizens to moderate their purchasing habits to avoid unnecessary pressure on the market.
Similarly, Hejira Mahmoudi, the Director of Trade for Sidi Bel Abbes province, reported that all necessary measures have been taken to bolster the province’s reserves during this period. This includes the organization of local markets across various districts, with plans to open them at least two weeks before the start of Ramadan.
Mahmoudi also called on traders to adhere to legally mandated prices, emphasizing that any unjustified price increases would result in punitive measures and sanctions. Strict enforcement will be in place to deter price gouging.
These intensified inspections are part of a broader effort to guarantee the availability of essential goods, protect consumer purchasing power, and prevent all forms of speculation in preparation for Ramadan. The government is committed to ensuring a stable and fair market for all citizens during this important time.
The comprehensive strategy underscores the government’s determination to safeguard the economic well-being of its citizens during Ramadan. The focus remains on preventing exploitation and ensuring fair access to essential commodities for all.
