Syrian President Consults Regional Leaders After Ceasefire Deal

President Ahmed al-Shareh held a series of phone calls with regional and international leaders Sunday evening to discuss the evolving situation in Syria following the announced ceasefire agreement and the integration of the SDF into the Syrian government.

According to official statements, the conversations included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq, Masoud Barzani.

The Turkish Presidency stated that President Erdogan affirmed Turkey’s continued and increasing support for Syria in various fields, particularly in the fight against terrorism. Erdogan emphasized that the complete cleansing of Syrian territories from terrorism is essential for Syria and the entire region. He also stressed Turkey’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity, stability, and security.

The French President, in his call with President al-Shareh, reaffirmed the commitment to Syria’s unity and sovereignty, rejecting any separatist tendencies. Both leaders underscored the necessity of accelerating Syria’s reconstruction process and creating conditions conducive to development projects.

During President al-Shareh’s call with Sheikh Tamim, the leaders reviewed the current events in Syria and reiterated the importance of preserving Syria’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty. They also discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them across all sectors, as well as several issues of mutual interest.

The Qatari Amiri Diwan confirmed that the call involved a review of the latest developments in Syria and emphasized the importance of maintaining its unity and territorial integrity. Discussions also covered bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in various fields.
