High-Speed Train Collision in Spain Claims 39 Lives

A devastating high-speed train collision in southern Spain has left 39 people dead and dozens injured. The accident occurred near the town of Adamuz in the Cordoba province yesterday, prompting a massive emergency response.

According to Spanish authorities, a train operated by ‘Irio’ derailed on a straight section of track. This caused it to collide head-on with a ‘Renfe’ train traveling in the opposite direction. The impact caused significant damage, with carriages derailing and some falling onto an adjacent embankment.

Approximately 500 passengers were on board the two trains. Seventy-five individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment, with 24 reported to be in serious condition. The cause of the initial derailment remains under investigation, despite recent track maintenance conducted in May.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described the incident as a “night of profound pain for the country.” Emergency services are continuing their rescue and recovery efforts at the scene.
