Yemen: Al-Alimi Stresses State Control of Arms

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad Al-Alimi has reiterated the critical need for the state to maintain exclusive control over all weaponry. He emphasized that any armed formations operating outside the established state institutions are unacceptable.

President Al-Alimi’s statement was made during a meeting with Lt. Gen. Fahd bin Hamad Al-Salman, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen. Discussions focused on strengthening joint military coordination and enhancing the capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces to effectively confront existing threats.

The leaders addressed strategies for combating terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime, highlighting the importance of a unified and coordinated approach to security challenges.

In a related development, Chief of the General Staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Sagheer bin Aziz, underscored the necessity of elevating combat readiness and bolstering security vigilance. This directive aligns with President Al-Alimi’s instructions, as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to implement a comprehensive emergency plan.

The General Staff meeting, convened in Marib, reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ unwavering support for President Al-Alimi’s decisions. Participants stressed the importance of adhering to the 2026 training and operational plan, which aims to enhance the Armed Forces’ efficiency and combat capabilities. Discussions also covered the level of combat readiness, deployment plans, and the importance of operational integration to serve national objectives and strengthen the military.
