Algiers – Lieutenant General Mustapha Smaili, Commander of the Algerian Land Forces, received Major General Andre Rafael Mahungane, Chief of Staff of the Mozambican Land Forces, at the Land Forces Command headquarters today, January 19, 2026. The Mozambican delegation also included the Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to Algeria.
The meeting featured bilateral discussions focusing on areas of mutual interest and cooperation. Both parties lauded the excellent bilateral relations and the existing mechanisms for consultation and collaboration between Algeria and Mozambique.
The discussions highlighted the strong ties between the two nations and their commitment to strengthening military cooperation. Opportunities for joint training exercises and the exchange of expertise were reportedly explored.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two commanders exchanged symbolic gifts. Major General Mahungane then signed the Golden Record of the Land Forces Command, marking the significance of the visit and further solidifying the bond between the two armed forces.
This high-level meeting underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with African nations and promoting regional stability through enhanced military cooperation.
