Civil Protection Rescues Nine Amidst Weather Instability

January 20, 2026 – Civil Protection units across several Algerian provinces responded to numerous incidents following recent adverse weather conditions, successfully rescuing nine individuals.

In the province of Relizane, emergency responders successfully extracted a truck stranded on the heavy vehicle route in the Safour area. The driver was unharmed. A separate operation saw the rescue of three people from a vehicle stuck on the same heavy vehicle route near Maghan; no injuries were reported.

Elsewhere in Relizane, a lone driver was freed from a car trapped in the 1026 housing district due to heavy rainfall. Firefighters also worked to drain accumulated rainwater in several neighborhoods, including El-Barmadi, Chadli, Hamou, El-Toub, Delles, and El-Intissar, with no casualties reported.

In El-Matmar municipality, a driver was rescued from a vehicle stranded on National Route 04. Similarly, in Oued Djemaa, Civil Protection units pumped rainwater from a home in El-Fellahia village, preventing any harm to residents.

Beni Zentis saw emergency teams draining rainwater from a residence in Douar Ouled Zakri.

Over in Laghouat province, authorities rescued three people from a car stuck in mud after the M’zi wadi’s water level rose in the Hamda region. No injuries were sustained.

Finally, in Tiaret province, Civil Protection units drained accumulated rainwater from two homes in the Kerman and El-Djaffaf areas, ensuring the safety of the residents. The General Directorate of Civil Protection continues to monitor the situation closely across the affected regions.
