Algeria is bracing for a period of intense weather, with heavy thunderstorms, significant snowfall, and a marked drop in temperatures expected across several regions. Authorities have issued weather alerts, warning residents to take necessary precautions.
Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall: Several provinces are under alert for locally heavy thunderstorms. Adrar and Timimoun are expected to receive up to 30mm of rainfall. A more severe warning is in place for Tipaza, Chlef, Mostaganem, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, Relizane, Mascara, Tiaret, and Saida, where rainfall could exceed 80mm locally. Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Algiers, Bouira, and Medea can anticipate up to 40mm of rainfall.
Significant Snowfall: Mountainous areas above 1000 meters are likely to experience heavy snowfall, with accumulations potentially reaching 15cm. This warning covers Tlemcen, Naama, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, El Bayadh, Laghouat, and Djelfa.
Western Region: The western strip of the country, particularly Oran, Ain Temouchent, and Tlemcen, will continue to experience localized thunderstorms.
Eastern and Southern Regions: Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Souk Ahras, Djelfa, Laghouat, Ghardaia, El Menia, In Salah, Ouargla, Touggourt, and El Oued are also under alert for locally significant thunderstorms.
Cold Snap: A wave of intense cold is expected to persist across Khenchela, Batna, Djelfa, Tiaret, El Bayadh, Saida, and Naama.
