General Saïd Chengriha, the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, participated in the official opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2026) in Qatar yesterday. This occurred during the second day of his official visit to the State of Qatar, according to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of National Defence.
Following the opening ceremony, General Chengriha, accompanied by his delegation, toured several pavilions at the exhibition. He was briefed on the various equipment and technology on display, including advanced weaponry and weapon systems. Representatives from the different pavilions provided detailed explanations and presentations.
During his visit, General Chengriha was received by Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs. General Chengriha expressed his “sincere gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality.” He also highlighted the “significant momentum” in military cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the shared commitment of both nations’ leaders to further strengthen and develop this cooperation.
Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani lauded the high level of bilateral military cooperation between the two brotherly nations. At the conclusion of their meeting, both parties exchanged symbolic gifts.
According to the same statement, General Chengriha also held a “cordial meeting with Staff Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces.” Discussions focused on “the state of bilateral military cooperation and ways to develop it, reflecting the excellent relations between Algeria and Qatar, and meeting the aspirations of the leaders of both brotherly countries.”
During this meeting, General Chengriha noted the “strong impetus and distinct dynamism” in Algerian-Qatari relations in recent years. The Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces praised the level of military cooperation between the two countries and expressed his “appreciation to General Chengriha for accepting the invitation.” The meeting concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defence.
