Algeria and GGGI Discuss Green Growth Opportunities

Algiers – The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounès Magramane, received Mr. Sanghyup Kim, the Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), at the ministry headquarters today. The meeting took place as part of Mr. Kim’s working visit to Algeria, scheduled for January 20th and 21st, 2026.

The discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration between Algeria and the GGGI, with a particular emphasis on promoting sustainable development and green economic growth initiatives. Mr. Magramane highlighted Algeria’s commitment to environmental protection and its efforts to diversify its economy away from reliance on hydrocarbons.

‘Algeria recognizes the importance of transitioning to a green economy,’ stated Mr. Magramane. ‘We are eager to explore partnerships that can help us achieve our goals in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and efficient resource management.’

Mr. Kim expressed the GGGI’s strong interest in supporting Algeria’s green growth ambitions. He acknowledged Algeria’s potential as a regional leader in sustainable development and offered the GGGI’s expertise in developing and implementing green growth strategies.

The visit underscores Algeria’s commitment to engaging with international organizations in pursuit of its sustainable development objectives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of such collaborations in addressing global challenges related to climate change and environmental degradation.
