Algiers – The National Gendarmerie has issued simultaneous appeals to citizens following two separate cases of fraud and scams, in accordance with Article 26 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and with the authorization of the competent Public Prosecutors.
In Medea, the Regional Group of the National Gendarmerie reported that a suspect, identified as (L.M.), was allegedly offering counterfeit 2000 DZD banknotes for sale. He lured victims to the Haouch Mihoub neighborhood in the municipality of Baraki, where he defrauded them and stole their money through pickpocketing, violence, or assault with a bladed weapon. The Gendarmerie urges anyone who has fallen victim to these acts to file a complaint or provide testimony to the Regional Brigade of the National Gendarmerie in Baata, or to any National Gendarmerie unit nationwide.
In a separate incident, the Regional Group of the National Gendarmerie in Chlef announced the arrest of a person, identified as (D.A.), suspected of involvement in a fraud and scam case via the TikTok platform. The suspect allegedly operated a page under the name TOURISME VOYAGE, using the name TRAVEL RAHAF on the map application. The Gendarmerie urges anyone who has been defrauded by this individual to appear before the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Chlef Court or to contact the Research and Investigation Department of the National Gendarmerie in Chlef to file a complaint or provide testimony as part of the ongoing investigation.
The National Gendarmerie emphasizes its ongoing efforts to combat various forms of fraud and scams. It calls on citizens to be vigilant, avoid falling for suspicious offers, and immediately report any suspicious activities to protect the safety of people and property. Citizens are reminded to verify the legitimacy of online offers and transactions before engaging.
