Drug Bust in Laghouat: Over 5,300 Hallucinogenic Capsules Seized

LAGHOUAT – In a significant blow against narcotics trafficking, the National Gendarmerie in Laghouat has apprehended three individuals, including one woman, and seized a substantial quantity of hallucinogenic capsules. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in all its forms across the region.

The operation unfolded during routine traffic control duties carried out by officers of the Regional Road Security Unit of the National Gendarmerie on National Route 1, connecting Laghouat and Ghardaia. A passenger vehicle was stopped and subjected to administrative checks and a thorough security search, aided by canine units.

The search led to the discovery of 5,339 capsules of Pregabalin 300mg, meticulously concealed under the front seat and inside the windshield washer fluid reservoir – a blatant attempt to deceive law enforcement.

The three suspects, aged between 20 and 36, were immediately taken into custody and transferred to the National Gendarmerie’s Research Brigade for further investigation. The vehicle used in the operation, along with three mobile phones, were also seized.

Following the completion of all legal procedures, legal files have been prepared against the individuals. They are expected to be brought before the competent judicial authorities to face charges related to smuggling, a serious offense that threatens the national economy and public health. Additional charges include possession, transportation, storage, and offering for sale of psychotropic substances within an organized criminal group.
