Algiers Police Dismantle Drug Ring, Seize Ecstasy Pills

Algiers, January 20, 2026 – Authorities in Algiers have dismantled a criminal network involved in trafficking narcotics, seizing a significant quantity of ecstasy pills in the process. The operation, conducted by the First Judicial Police District, targeted an organized group engaged in the illegal trade of hard drugs, specifically for distribution and sale, as well as money laundering.

According to a statement released by the Algiers Security Services, the investigation was launched following credible intelligence indicating the presence of individuals, including a female suspect, involved in the distribution of hard drugs within the capital’s neighborhoods. Acting on this information, the anti-narcotics unit initiated a series of field investigations, leading to the identification of six suspects, one of whom was a woman in her forties. All six were apprehended in subsequent operations.

Following the acquisition of search warrants issued by the relevant Public Prosecutor, authorities conducted searches of the suspects’ residences. These searches resulted in the seizure of 17,400 ecstasy pills, weighing approximately 6.2 kilograms. In addition, law enforcement recovered 325 million centimes, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, and four passenger vehicles allegedly used in the criminal enterprise.

The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Algerian law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and organized crime within the capital and throughout the country. The suspects have been formally charged and presented before the competent regional prosecution authority, where they will face legal proceedings in accordance with the penal code. This case highlights the commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety and security of Algerian citizens.
