The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shareh have held a phone conversation to discuss the latest developments in Syria. The discussions also covered regional and international issues, according to statements released by both the Qatari Amiri Diwan and the Syrian Presidency.
The Amiri Diwan stated that the call explored ways to strengthen and develop relations between the two countries across various levels. The leaders also addressed efforts to support peace and political stability through dialogue and peaceful solutions, with the aim of preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
The Syrian Presidency reported that both sides emphasized Syria’s unity and sovereignty, as well as the importance of dialogue and enhanced cooperation to achieve regional security and stability.
This conversation follows a previous phone call on Sunday between President al-Shareh and Sheikh Tamim, during which they reviewed the current events in Syria. During that call, both leaders reaffirmed the importance of Syria’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty, as well as its recovery process.
The leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them in all areas, and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated on Sunday that the signing of a ceasefire agreement and full integration between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is an “important step towards consolidating civil peace and promoting security, stability, and building a state of institutions and the rule of law.”
The ministry emphasized that Syria’s stability and prosperity “require the state to monopolize weapons within a single army that represents all Syrian components.”
