Algiers, January 21, 2026 – The General Directorate of Civil Protection has released an assessment of the widespread impact following recent severe weather across numerous provinces in Algeria. The report, compiled up to 7:00 AM this morning, details interventions carried out to mitigate damage and ensure public safety.
In the municipality of Hadjout, Tipaza province, Civil Protection units successfully pumped out rainwater that had flooded the entrances of ten commercial properties in the 18 February district. Similar operations were conducted in Kelaia, where rainwater was removed from two residences in the Kessarli neighborhood.
Responding to a more critical situation, emergency services evacuated a family of four after the Mazafran River overflowed, flooding their home situated along National Route 67 towards Berbessa. The family was safely relocated.
In the capital, Algiers, Civil Protection teams responded to several incidents related to falling trees. In Bir Touta, a palm tree fell onto power lines in front of the district headquarters, causing a disruption in service. Another palm tree fell onto the road near the Al-Atik Mosque in Kouba. In Oued Koriche, a tree fell onto a parked passenger vehicle in the Bouchech Brothers neighborhood. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
Further interventions were required in Bologhine, where soil erosion partially blocked the entrance to a residence in the 192 Zagharah Consulate neighborhood. Civil Protection personnel worked to clear the debris and ensure safe access to the property.
In Bourouba, a partial balcony collapse occurred due to falling stones from an old building on 31 Saoud Achour Street. Authorities are assessing the structural integrity of the building to prevent further incidents.
The Civil Protection continues to monitor the situation and remains on alert to respond to any further emergencies arising from the ongoing weather conditions. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and report any incidents to the relevant authorities.
