Algeria is actively participating in the International Exhibition of Mines, Quarries and Hydrocarbons, SIMICA Chad 2026, demonstrating its commitment to fostering African cooperation. The event, held in N’Djamena, Chad, from January 21st to 23rd, 2026, is under the patronage of the President of Chad, Marshal Mohamed Idriss Déby Itno.
Representing the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by the Prime Minister of Chad, Allamaye Halina, also representing President Déby Itno. A high-level Algerian delegation accompanied Minister Arkab, including the Minister of Industry, Yahia Bechire, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, the CEO of Sonatrach, Nordine Daoudi, the CEO of Naftal, Djamal Cherdoud, and the CEO of GICA, Rabah Guessoum. Numerous officials from the hydrocarbons, mining, energy, and industry sectors of both countries and other African nations were also present.
Minister Arkab delivered a speech on behalf of President Tebboune, emphasizing Algeria’s dedication to supporting African collaboration and strengthening South-South partnerships. He stated that Algeria’s participation as a guest of honor reflects its firm belief that Africa’s future lies in the hands of its people and through the integration of its capabilities and resources.
The President’s address highlighted Africa’s vast natural resources, particularly in hydrocarbons and strategic minerals. However, he stressed that the real challenge is to manage these resources effectively, transforming them into drivers of sustainable economic and social development, creating added value, and generating employment to meet the aspirations of African people.
President Tebboune underscored the need for good governance in the extractive industries, based on transparency, knowledge localization, technology transfer, respect for environmental standards, and promotion of local content. He also advocated for responsible investments and balanced partnerships that achieve mutual benefit.
The speech further highlighted Algeria’s experience in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, emphasizing national control over resources, development of value chains, and building human capacity. Algeria expressed its readiness to share its expertise with fellow African nations, particularly in exploration, production, and training. Algeria views SIMICA Chad 2026 as a key platform for advancing pan-African cooperation in critical sectors. This participation underscores Algeria’s commitment to a prosperous and self-reliant Africa.
