Algeria and Chad are laying the groundwork for a strategic partnership aimed at developing Chad’s cement industry. The initiative was discussed during the SIMICA Chad 2026 International Mining, Quarrying, and Hydrocarbons Exhibition.
Algerian Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, held a bilateral working session with his Chadian counterpart, Mathieu Guibolo Fanga, focusing on strengthening industrial cooperation, particularly in cement and building materials. The meeting, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, Faisel Jiaouti, and the CEO of Algeria’s Cement Industries Group (GICA), Rabah Guessoum, follows preliminary discussions held in Algeria last December. These initial talks explored partnership opportunities in the cement sector, driven by increasing demand in the Chadian market due to major development projects.
Discussions centered on developing Chad’s cement industry through two approaches: establishing structured industrial projects in the medium term and implementing rapid solutions to address immediate needs, bridging the gap between local production and consumption. The potential for establishing clinker grinding units in Chad, leveraging Algerian expertise and raw material supply, was also explored. This would reduce import costs and support local manufacturing.
Both sides emphasized the importance of leveraging Algeria’s experience in cement production, particularly through GICA. With its substantial production capacity, skilled workforce, and technical expertise, GICA is positioned as a key partner in future collaborative projects. The parties agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding outlining the general framework for cooperation. This will pave the way for deeper technical consultations and the implementation of joint industrial partnership projects, serving the economic interests of both countries and contributing to sustainable industrial development in Chad.
