Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Traffic Across Several Algerian Provinces

Algiers – Recent severe weather conditions, characterized by heavy snowfall and torrential rains, have led to the closure of several national and provincial roads across numerous provinces in Algeria. The disruptions significantly impacted traffic flow over the weekend.

The National Gendarmerie, through its Traffic Information Center, reported that the adverse weather resulted in temporary traffic interruptions in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Djelfa, Blida, and Relizane. These disruptions were primarily caused by heavy snow accumulation and rising water levels on several key routes.

In Tizi Ouzou province, accumulated snow led to the closure of National Road 33, which connects Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, specifically in the Assoul area of the Ait Boumahdi municipality.

Meanwhile, in Djelfa province, the rising water level of Oued El Mett caused the closure of National Road 01A, linking Djelfa to Laghouat, particularly at the Oued El Mett bridge in the Hassi Bahbah municipality.

In Blida province, Provincial Road 110, connecting Blida to Tipaza, was flooded at the Ben Hamdani center in the Ben Khelil municipality, prompting its closure to ensure the safety of road users. Similarly, Relizane province experienced the closure of Provincial Road 52, which links Relizane to Mostaganem, due to rising water levels in the Douar Es-Salhiyeh area of the Beni Zentis municipality.

The National Gendarmerie has confirmed that traffic flow remains normal on other roads, urging road users to exercise caution, stay informed about weather forecasts, and monitor traffic updates before traveling. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
