January 22, 2026 – Several major roadways across Algeria have been closed due to severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and flooding, according to the National Gendarmerie. The affected areas span multiple provinces, disrupting transportation and impacting local communities.
In Tizi Ouzou province, National Route 33, a crucial link between Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, is currently impassable. The closure is specifically located in the Asoul area of Ait Boumahdi municipality, where heavy snowfall has accumulated, making travel hazardous.
Further south, in Djelfa province, National Route 01A, connecting Djelfa and Laghouat, is closed near the Oued El Meit bridge in Hassi Bahbah municipality. The closure is a result of rising water levels, posing a significant risk to vehicles attempting to cross.
Similar conditions have led to the closure of National Route 127, which links Medea and Tissemsilt provinces. The affected areas are near El Katar in Draag municipality and the Tayebat area of Aziz municipality, both experiencing elevated water levels.
The adverse weather is also impacting regional routes. Wilaya Route 110, a key connection between Blida and Tipaza provinces, is closed at the Ben Hamdani center in Ben Khelil municipality due to flooding.
In Ghilizane province, Wilaya Route 52, linking Ghilizane and Mostaganem, is closed near Douar Es-Salhia in Beni Zentis municipality, again due to rising water levels. Authorities are advising motorists to avoid these areas and seek alternative routes until the weather improves and the roads are deemed safe for travel. DZWatch News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
